Nordik Agony

The Nordik Agony is a call that creates a lifelike sound of pain and agony, and it is very easy to blow. The sounds that the call makes are of general agony, that are effective for calling fox and other predators.

Nordik Agony is a closed reed call, that makes it more vulnerable to moisture, therefore be careful not to get saliva into the call.

The Nordik Agony can also very effectively imitate the sound of a jackdaw.

Instructions

Rest the mouth piece against your teeth or lips and blow thrusts of air into the call. Vary the length of the thrusts and use one of your hands in front of the call for a more vivid sound. The call is easily blown, so do not use any force, adjust the thrust until you find a lifelike, raspy sound, without using your throat or growl at the same time.

If you want the sound to be higher pitched, add more pressure to the mouth piece.

Jackdaw

Bite the mouth piece completely together with your teeth or lips and blow into the call at the same time as you let go of the mouth piece completely.

Suggestions of how to make a stand

Open fields:

Call intensively for 15-20 seconds, be quiet for 2-3 minutes and keep doing this for 20-40 minutes for each stand.

Smaller fields and forested areas:

Call intensively for 15-20 seconds, be quiet for 5-6 minutes and keep doing this for 20-30 minutes for each stand.

Note that predators often go down wind to make sure there is not a larger predator there that can be a threat. Try to find a stand where you can watch your own down wind and make sure you are well camouflaged!

Remember, practice makes perfect!

Nordik Knife

The Nordik Knife is developed for active hunting, especially for gutting and skinning. The small size of the knife enables you to effectively work inside the body cavity with high precision, without damaging sensitive parts, and the handle gives a good secure grip during the gutting process.

The knife can be carried as a neck knife as well as a two directional belt knife.

The strong full tang AUS 8 blade runs through the handle, which is made of thermoplastic rubber.

The Knife and the Kydex sheath are also hygienic and easy to clean.

Nordik Mallard

Nordik Mallard

This single reed duck call is easy to blow, specially adapted for beginners since a smaller amount of air is needed. This call can produce all the basic sounds for calling mallards. The ma- terial in this call is polycarbonate and its’ design offers several ways to attach a lanyard.

How to use

Hold the call at the waist of the sound chamber between your thumb and index finger, and place the barrel against your mouth, as if you were to drink from it. Make sure you can use your remaining fingers to open and close in front of the call, this gives you a more life like sound. Mind that you don’t close your hand completly in front of the call since this will choke the sound, and when you open your hand, you want to ”throw” out the sound.

The quack sound

Close your fingers in fromt of the sound chamber, and press air out from your diaphragm, as if you were to say the word ”DWITT”, at the same time, open your hand.
Sequence: dwitt, dwitt, dwitt.

Greeting call

Make a series of 4-5 quack sounds in a pretty rapid cadence. Make the first three quacks longer. Use your hand actively, open and close with each quack.
Sequence: dwiiitt…, dwiiitt…, dwiiit…, dwitt, dwitt.

Comeback call

Make a series of 6-8 quacks in a faster and louder sequence. Again, use your hand, opening and closing your fingers with each quack.

Feeding call

Make a series of very rapid, short thrusts of air, while trying to say the word ”ticka, ticka,… ticka, ticka, ticka” sporadically and without any rythm or predictabillity. Again, use your remaining fingers to open and close in front of the call.

Remember – practice makes perfect!

Nordik Mouse

The Nordik Mouse is a mouth call with a life like sound for fox and other predators that mainly prey on mice and voles.

Softly inhaling and exhaling thought the call is enough, this makes the call very easy to use, no force is needed. In case some debris gets stuck in the call it is easy to clean by pulling the pieces apart.

The shape of the call makes it possible to use without holding it in your hands, you can keep your hands on your gun and be prepared when the predator appears.

The squeak of a mouse can be used through out the hunting season but is particularly effective for young fox, that have not yet experienced distress sounds from other prey, such as rabbit and hare. Therefore, it is often easier to call young fox with mouse squeak than with other sounds.

The sound from the call may seem low, but predators have very good hearing and in calm weather they will hear the call from a far distance.

Using the call:

Use what you think sounds like mouse squeaks irregularly for 20-30 seconds, be quiet for 1-2 minutes and repeat this for 30-40 minutes before choosing a new stand. The mouse squeak is also a preferable way to begin or end your session when calling with hare or bird distress.

Keep in mind that even if the predators you call using the mouse call are not as careful as when you call with a hare distress call, the ones with experience will go down wind to sniff for other predators that may be a threat. Try to find a stand where you can watch you wind and use camouflage!

Nordik Pro Roe

Nordik Pro Roe – a game call for roe deer

The Nordik Pro Roe is a new game call from NordikPredator, designed to call roebucks effectively, but it also excellent for calling the roe deer does, and predators that prey on roe deer.

The call is pre-tuned with all the sounds that you need for a successful hunt.

Bite on the mouthpiece with your teeth, adjust by changing between the notches to create the different sounds.

Calling roebucks, use these sounds:

  •  The contact sound of the doe:

Place your teeth inside the innermost notch of the soundboard and press down hard, keep the pressure, and blow a short thrush of air into the call. Repeat a couple of times.

  • The agitation sound of the doe:

Place your teeth inside the innermost notch of the soundboard and press down hard, keep the pressure, and blow a long thrush of air into the call. Repeat a couple of times.

  • The agony sound of the doe:

Place your teeth inside the innermost notch of the soundboard and press down hard, start with a short thrush of air into the call and thereafter let go of the pressure. Repeat a couple of times.

Calling the roe does and predators by using the agony sound of the fawn:

Place your teeth inside the outermost notch of the soundboard and bite down hard, blow a long thrush of air into the call. Repeat a couple of times.

How to call: Mix the contact, agitation and agony calls with a couple of minutes intervals for 20-30 minutes per stand.

Nordik 3-pack – all you need for fox calling!

The NORDIK MINI PREDATOR is specially developed to meet the demands of calling predators under Nordic conditions. The call is simple to use and its mouth piece is freeze proof. The call can produce a wide variety of sounds. This call has a smaller sound board and thinner membrane than its big brother Nordik Predator.

Rodent squeaks

To imitate mouse and vole squeaks, place the o-ring, your teeth or lips at the outermost part of the membrane and blow with short thrusts in the call.

Distress calls from rabbit and hare

These calls are easy to make by placing the o-ring, your teeth or lips in the middle of the mouth piece and blow into the call. The further back on the membrane the coarser the sound. Vary long and short sounds for 15-25 seconds and repeat every 3-4 minutes. Open and close your hand in front of the call’s opening as you blow for a more life like sound.

The Nordik Crying Bird is specially developed to imitate bird distress sounds. These sounds are very effective to call foxes and other predators with.

To imitate a woodpecker in distress, blow short and intense thrusts of air or hard trrr, trrr, trrr into the call.

To make distress sounds of small birds, blow carefully and let the air go back and forth, both in and out through the call.

If you blow a short steady flow of air through the call you will get a very realistic rabbit distress sound. Call 15-30 seconds and sit quiet for 1-2 minutes and repeat for 15-25 minutes / stand.

At www.nordikpredator.se you can see a video clip with a distressed woodpecker caught in a bird ringing net. This can be used as guidance when practicing with the call.

The Nordik Fox Heat is specially developed for calling fox that are out searching for a partner during the mating period. It is also effective during other seasons for fox that defend their territory. Some fox answer to the call, others come silently.

Instructions:

We use 2 different whistling sounds.

Nr 1: Cover the hole on the sound chamber with your index finger and blow “trrr” softly into the call three times (trrr, trrr, trrr), pause for 10 seconds (trrr, trrr, trrr), pause for 10 seconds (trrr, trrr, trrr). Repeat this series of sounds every 5-10 minutes for a 30-40 minute stand.

Nr. 2: Cover the hole on the sound chamber with your index finger and blow 4 short, soft thrusts of air in close succession, finish with a long thrust of air for 3 seconds where you remove your finger from the hole as you start blowing and let the sound fade out towards the end (ju-ju-ju-ju-jullllliiiiii). Paus for 10 seconds and repeat. Repeat this series of sounds every 5-10 minutes for a 30-40 minute stand.

Nordik Barrborn Basic Crow

Game call for crows

Basic is one of two game calls in the series ”Nordik Barrborn Crow”. The calls are developed and designed by Roger Barrborn in cooperation with Nordikpredator.

The calls are developed specially to be able to produce a wide variety of different calls and sounds of crows. The design makes the call very easy to use.

With the Nordik Barrborn Basic call you can make a register of the softer basic sounds, such as a crow declaring the area safe.

To use the call, place the mouth piece between your lips in front of your front teeth while keeping a distance between your upper and lower front teeth of 3-4 mm. Start off by making a coarse R-sound without using too much force, you will soon learn the basic sound that you can start to vary.

Once you have learned to make a life like sound that can be used as a soft contact call you can easily start learning how to make more soft and comforting sounds.

By altering how hard you pinch or bite on the mouth piece you will soon notice how the pitch changes, to add even more variation use your hand in front of the sound chamber, opening and closing your cupped hand.

Advice! When you feel comfortable with calling we advise you to use two different calls. I use the Basic and the Pro calls together, alternating between them to create a “duetto” of calls. With access to both calls, vary the softer sounds from the Basic call with the aggressive calls from the Pro call.

Good Luck,

 Roger Barrborn

The call is also sold in a 2-pack together with the Nordik Barrborn Pro Crow call.

Nordik Barrborn Crow 2-pack

Game calls for crows

Nordik Barrborn Crow is a series of two game calls; the Nordik Barrborn Basic Crow and the Nordik Barrborn Pro Crow. These calls are designed and produced by Roger Barrborn in cooperation with Nordikpredator.

The calls are developed specially to be able to produce a wide variety of different calls and sounds of crows. The design makes the call very easy to use.

Use the Nordik Barrborn Basic to create the softer basic sounds that the crows use to let each other know that the area is safe.

The Nordik Barrborn Pro on the other hand is to be used to make a series of calls that attracts and annoys crows.

We recommend you to use both calls together, thus making a duet of sounds and calls. With access to both calls, vary the softer sounds from the Basic call with the aggressive calls from the Pro call.

The principal is to place the call in your mouth, in front of your teeth, while having a small gap of 3-4 mm between your upper and lower front teeth.  By making a coarse R-sound without any force you will easily make a basic sound that you can use and vary.

Once you are able to produce a true to life sound that can be used as a calm contact call, you can start to vary this. By altering how hard you press the mouthpiece together with your fingers, or bite on it you will quickly notice a variation in sounds. To create even more variation, hold your hand cupped in front of the sound chamber and open and close it.

Good luck!

Nordik Bear

Nordik Bear

Instructions

Nordik Bear is especially developed for calling bears and other predators
in areas where moose are common, e.g. northern Europe,
northern Asia and North America. The call imitates the sound of a moose
calf in distress, attracting both predators and moose cows.

WARNING:

All calling for large predators is at your own
risk! When calling, we recommend two hunters to be
present, sitting back to back, able to observe the whole
surroundings, alternatively calling from highstands.

Expand the lower part of the call, place the mouthpiece to your lips and exhale. Alternate between shorter and longer sounds for one minute; rest for two to three minutes and keep going for one to two hours each stand.
The bear often only moves as long as it hears the calf crying,
so call for a long time each stand! For the best result,
open and close your hands in front of the call for a more realistic sound
and make sure you do not blow any saliva into the mouthpiece.

Nordik Boar

Nordik Boar

Instructions

Nordik Boar is especially developed for calling wild boar. The sound that is produced by the call imitates the contact sound that the boars make when they are rooting and feeding. This makes the pigs believe there is already a group of wild boars pretty close and this gives them the courage to approach quick and incautious.

The call is very simple to use, expand the lower part of the call and place the mouthpiece between your lips. Blow short sprouts of air repeatedly with various pauses between each breath to make the sound of contact grunts, make sure not to blow saliva into the call. Work with opening and closing your hands in front of the call for an authentic sound.
